Yesterday, Tuesday, the Regie launched the procedures for implementing the ISO 45001 standard for occupational health and safety management system in its factories, which allows it to obtain a certificate from the International Organization for Standardization in this field. The President and Director General, Eng. Nassif Seklaoui, declared in the presence of members of the Board, the representative of guardianship authority and concerned officials that the Regie is the first among other public institutions and utilities in Lebanon to adopt such step due to its importance and necessity.
He stressed that the objective is not recent; indeed it falls within the priorities of the sustainable development strategy adopted by the Regie in 2016. However, the explosion of August 4 and the accidents resulting from storing of gasoline and diesel that have occurred in several Lebanese regions have urged the Regie to adopt such standard, especially following the Cabinet’s request about chemicals storing methods at the Regie.”
The Regie explained in a statement that the occupational health and safety management system "is an international standard program aiming to identify risks that may lead to harm and to take necessary precautions and preventive measures before occurring."
