Invited by its municipality, the Regie’s President and General Director Nassif Seklaoui sponsored the opening ceremony of the Regie’s Hall in Al-Hayssa, Akkar. The ceremony was attended by MP Walid Al-Baraini, Mustafa Ali Hussein, political and religious leaders, mayors, municipal chiefs, and heads of agricultural unions and local associations.
The celebration was initiated with the National Anthem and a speech by the Head of Tobacco farmers Union in the North, Abdelhamid Sakr, in which he welcomed Seklaoui and the audience: “In 2018, in front of the rapid development, technological and scientific leapfrogs, the diffusion of capitalist production patterns in our villages and towns, and the urbanization that eliminates the identity of the countryside for the benefit of production interests and different economic patterns, some may consider that tackling agriculture and farmers as outdated. Therefore the responsibility grows on the shoulders of the custodians of agriculture and ours.”
He added: “Hence, the Regie and the Tobacco farmers Union in the North believed in the importance of diversifying and extending their work. Currently, the Regie is undertaking a developmental role in order to maintain farmer’s rights in his field, enhance farming and delivery conditions, and ensure suitable prices.
